I'm not sure about the selection of info. Maybe the Char Gen could be shortened so as to make room for the Arena descriptions? Right now that seems like the biggest missing piece. That, and the standard bad guy templates, but I decided to focus on the player-centric rules, since OSH DMs ought to be able to just make shit up.
The name change reflects an idea I had at GenCon -- to produce a DM's Guide and a Monster Manual in the same format.
Any suggestions for necessary material in such volumes?
Tbese were a big hit at GenCon -- I handed one out to everyone who played in my games. It was a lot of fun and players really appreciated having all the rules right there in front of them.
Wow, those would be perfect to hand out at a convention, great job! And I love the fact that the "Players Handbook" if a freaking pocketmod. Awesome Point to you sir!
For a monster manual, I think the thing to do is to have the pocket mod in addition to a scenario with all the monsters and talents used in the scenario. I'm almost done working on a scenario that has 7 distinct foes in it that would use a write-up (as well as normal minions and such) and a pocket mod could be helpful for that.
For the DM guide, I know the rules discourage it, but I'm going to use a set difficulty scale. That would be helpful to include, to give a sense of what kind of difficulties to assign based on how hard you think it is. Also, guidance on feeding the bowl. Rundown of monster types. Description of attributes. Weapon and arena information.
Another possibility for monsters could be a series: "Talents for Minions." "Talents for Guards." "Talents for [Type] Monsters. (Amphibious, magical, desert, animals, hunters, etc.)" "Talents for Dragons." "Talents for Dinosaurs."
Maybe an AC and Wound and Weapon Type assignment guide--"Monster Basics."
Just wanted something that could help out a struggling GM who needs inspiration in-game. The idea is that you could just pick this book up and have some notion of how to provide interesting bad guys.
